Which Greek coffee?

Question: Which Greek coffee?
One of my friends recently visited Greece and praised the "Greek coffee" who served in all pubs. He said it was a kind of local specialty and has never tried such a thing at home. What exactly is the Greek coffee, and how can I do?
Answer: Greek coffee is basically the same as the Turkish coffee. As a "coffee Armenia," Armenian "Cypriot coffee" in Cyprus, Serbia "house coffee" and "Bosnian coffee" in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the term "Greek coffee" the way to Greece to be very important for something to qualify part of their culture, even if Turkey (which, with other regions of the Balkans, the Caucasus, the Middle East and North Africa, the origin of the drink is said to be) often had political relations with these nations risk. (For example, Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, the deterioration of relations between Greece and Turkey, and create rename "Turkish coffee" to "Greek coffee".)

As Turkish coffee, Greek coffee is finely ground coffee (sometimes called "Turkish" version), call the cooked tall and narrow cezve ibrik briki in a pot or. Greek coffee is served with units in the cup (made a often a half a cup), and the facilities are allowed to adjust the coffee is drunk slowly. Sweetness under Greek coffee is ideal for social gatherings, so it is not uncommon for people over Greek coffee at a cafe (a Greek coffee for men and women) or kafeneio often speak (Greek coffee for men) and Greek coffee visitors and guests in the Greek houses served. A study shows that the Greek style coffee break lasted more than 90 minutes - enough time to talk, catch up, gossip ... and let these countries are.

There are four main styles of Greek coffee:

  • No sugar or sketos (pronounced skeh-tohss)
  • Gentle enough or Metrics (pronounced ree-MEHT-SHO)
  • Slight or Glykos (pronounced ghlee-KOHSS)
  • Glykos very soft, or vary (pronounced VAH-REE-ghlee KOHSS)
Another variation on the Greek coffee is soft boiled coffee or vrastos glykys (pronounced KEE-ghlee-Vruh-stohss), but the drink is more than once cooked, and there is a lack of foam, one of the three main parts of Greek coffee:
  • Country / left, which are applied to the underside of the shell
  • The liquid masses coffee, which is strong and
  • Foam (or Kaimaki delivered KAEE-MAH-kee), which should be rich
Greek coffee is usually served with a glass of cold water (or coffee is served, is the Czech pubs) and is sometimes served with sweet (like cookies). Served traditionally black, although some young people prefer to a Greek coffee order "double" and add milk to taste.

Coffee, tea and baby makes three

This week's article is written in honor of Emily, my daughter was born unexpectedly in September 2004.

Most people are quick to agree that pregnant women should reduce caffeine from your diet. But recent research has shown that moderate consumption of caffeine will not harm the developing fetus. Excessive consumption about 3 cups of coffee per day (300-400mg caffeine) correspond. Of course, you can not fail to mention the hidden caffeine in soft drinks and over-the-counter medications. Verify here to see the content of caffeine in their favorite drink.

Previous studies of caffeine and pregnancy have all kinds of problems such as stillbirth, congenital heart defects and other problems. A closer examination of these studies, however, shows that other lifestyle factors and the environment (such as smoking or poor eating habits) are not taken into account properly.

Caffeine is a stimulant, and this dependency. It has the same effect on your baby as it does on you. If nothing else, provides caffeine consumption during pregnancy a high degree of dependence on her son and forced to suffer withdrawal symptoms when they are born. Some studies also have a higher rate of low birth weight and miscarriage shown if the mother had more than the amount of caffeine "moderate" above.

Herbal teas are a safe haven compared to caffeine. But not all herbs should be used during pregnancy. Plants such as ephedra, wormwood, black cohosh and should be avoided. Here is the complete list of herbs to avoid. Keep yourself. At the safest herbs like mint, chamomile, or fruit tea

Overall, my advice would be to try to reduce your consumption of coffee or tea with no more than one or two cups per day. Eliminate caffeine would be the safest way, but you were standing when you think you only need a cup to go in the morning. Oh, and do not forget to decaf coffee substitutes on the market, such as chicory.

A bit of irony ...
My wife has almost all the coffee and tea during pregnancy, have to be on the safe side. As it turns out, Emily was born two months too early anyway, and guess what part of your medical care while in the NICU? Yes, that's true. Caffeine. She received daily injections of caffeine to stimulate breathing and heart rate.

Drink Up: The Science Behind Health ...

There are many claims about the type of tea is "healthy". Some say that green tea is the healthiest kind of tea, while others say that white tea is healthy, because it has more antioxidants, Oolong tea is healthy as it promotes weight loss, or Pu-erh tea is healthy, contains because it helps lower cholesterol.

For the hard science on tea and health, I interviewed Douglas Balentine, Director of Nutrition and Health at Unilever North America (the largest tea company in the world and manufacturer brands Lipton and PG Tips). He has many years of experience in the research of many health benefits of tea and its experiences over tea and health at the Q & A below.

Lindsey: There are many claims that is in the way of tea "healthy". Why the idea of a kind of tea is "healthy" is not the way to think constructively about tea?

Doug: The real tea, that is. Black, green, oolong and white (but not "herbal") teas are made from leaves of Camellia sinensis. Though it [drunk factor in the feeling of Tea] differences in the amounts and types of flavonoids and amounts of caffeine, theanine and magnesium between different types of tea in general, all teas contain significant amounts of phytochemicals of tea. Population studies and intervention studies have shown somewhat similar black maintaining the health and wellness benefits of green tea.

Lindsey: Can you say more about flavonoids?

Doug: Flavonoids are compounds in tea, wine, cocoa, fruits and vegetables found food. Help tea flavonoids, the normal function of blood vessels (endothelial function). All teas from the camellia sinensis, such as white (not herbal) tea black, green, oolong and naturally contain between 100 and 300 mg of flavonoids per serving.

Lindsey: What are the health benefits are shared by all true teas?

Doug:

  • Regular tea consumption contribute to proper hydration, improves attention and concentration, helps the good mood during the day to keep.
  • Of course tea contains zero calories, therefore, when drinks are used in place of higher calorie, it can help control calorie intake is essential for weight control. In the Asian population, the consumption of green tea has been shown to reduce the amount of fat in the middle (as "visceral fat") is to be. This has not been confirmed in Western populations, but the results suggest that consumption of green tea can help to maintain a healthy body composition.
  • Three cups of tea a day may help cardiovascular health. Population studies have shown that regular consumption of black tea with a lower risk for heart disease and reduced risk of stroke.
  • Recent clinical studies have shown that drinking two to three cups of black tea a day can help maintain a healthy blood pressure and promote normal function of blood vessels.
Lindsey: In general, what kinds of services, the allocation of white tea, green tea, oolong tea, black tea and pu-erh performed?

Doug: green and black tea consumption has associated with the maintenance of cardiovascular health and function of healthy blood vessels. Few studies on oolong, white or Pu-erh tea, so that the benefits of these teas are known.

Lindsey: Are there any new research (from March 2012) on tea and health, which is particularly convincing or revolutionary?

Doug: We have just announced the results of a recent study by Unilever (Lipton's parent company) support, carried out at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the National Research Council of Australia Health and Medicine. The study found that subjects who drank three cups of black tea for six months stay all day all day blood pressure healthy.

In the study, 95 Australians, are 35 to 75 years old, or eat or drink black tea tax three times a day for six months. After both three and six months, the tea drinkers systolic and diastolic blood pressure was lower than the placebo drink tea 2-3 mm Hg.

Due to the fact that high blood pressure can significantly affect the risk of cardiovascular disease in the population, the leading cause of death in the United States, this study suggests drinking black tea may help maintain cardiovascular health helps control blood pressure.
